A Bit About Me

I am a junior at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (BCC). I play the violin in our school orchestra and am a dancer in our school POMs team. As a daughter of immigrants and a grandchild of refugees, I am a firm believer in the merits of hard work and upward mobility through education. I have had opportunities to travel abroad and live in Africa as a child, and this has shaped my thinking and actions. At BCC, I am fortunate to be surrounded by diverse friends and enjoy activities that combine fun and learning, with a desire for greater equity and societal improvement.

I am passionate about leadership by example, and love chatting and listening to different people - fellow students, younger mentees, and inspiring adults. Over the years, I have been a devoted Girls Scout, and a supporter of diverse public causes ranging from relief for hurricane victims in the Philippines to food for the homeless in my neighborhood. More recently, I was a Lazarus Fellow this summer, and co-founded “Youth for Equity". I have enjoyed every moment of this journey that has put me in touch with the lives and issues of so many people in our community!  I have been humbled, energized and invigorated by the community spirit and desire for contributing to a better future for all.  With your support, I hope that I can build upon this experience by serving as your 44th Student Member of the Board.

Experience

Cultural Advocacy Coordinator for Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association (MCR-SGA). I am working with diverse individuals to ensure all voices are adequately represented and advocated for in our county’s educational system.

Vice President of B-CC’s Minority Scholars Program (MSP). MSP was founded to ensure students from diverse backgrounds felt empowered and inspired to make a difference in their communities. We have created a close-knit family in which all students feel accepted regardless of perceived identity.

Fellow at 2020 Lazarus Leadership Program; Co-founder of Youth For Equity (YFE), a student-led initiative working to improve equity and inclusiveness in our educational system. We have built a large virtual community through active dialogue with administrators, educators, students, and parents from different school districts and backgrounds. We also follow through with actionable steps to create lasting policy and culture change. We have acquired over 100 student members, 50 staff members, and fostered collaboration with our school’s Principal, administrative team, and county-wide education and equity professionals. Our outreach has also included middle schools.

Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for Varsity POMs dance team, and member of the Varsity Spring Track team.  I enjoy a physically active, healthy vegan lifestyle and am a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
